Which port to sail from
The Tremiti Islands are reached from two directions: the Molise coast at Termoli, and the Gargano promontory at Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Peschici and Manfredonia. The difference is not only crossing time, it also decides which island you step off on and in which months the line runs at all. Settle the landing first, then compare port and date.
San Domino: the short crossing from Termoli
San Domino is the largest island of the group and holds most of the accommodation. Termoli is the shortest and most frequent link; from Vieste the crossing takes considerably longer and runs seasonally. If your accommodation is on San Domino, confirm that the sailing you book actually lands there: San Domino and San Nicola are separated by a stretch of water, and you cross between them only by boat. The details are on the San Domino page.
San Nicola: the Gargano landing
San Nicola holds the historic settlement and the fortified abbey, and it is the landing that appears most often on the Gargano routes. Manfredonia has the longest crossing and the shortest season of the group. Operating dates shift from year to year: the San Nicola page explains where you can sail from, the timetable says when.
The other three islands
Caprara, Cretaccio and Pianosa belong to the archipelago but have no scheduled service. They appear on local boat trips, not on ferries you book in advance. For trip planning only San Domino and San Nicola matter.
The car almost always stays ashore
Non-resident vehicles are restricted for most of the 2026 season, and both islands are walkable anyway. The practical question is not whether you can bring the car but where you leave it: the vehicles and parking guide starts there, and the Termoli page covers arrival at the main port.
The two islands compared
Times are planning medians taken from structured timetables and vary with vessel, intermediate calls and weather. Always confirm seasonality for your exact date.

Questions about Tremiti ferries
FAQ
What to settle before you book.
Where do ferries to the Tremiti Islands leave from?+
The main port is Termoli in Molise, the only one serving both islands. Seasonal services run from Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Peschici and Manfredonia on the Gargano. The full comparison is in the arrival guide.
Do ferries land on San Domino or San Nicola?+
It depends on the sailing, and on some services on the day of the week. San Domino is the larger island and holds most of the accommodation; San Nicola has the historic settlement and the fortified abbey.
Can I take a car to the Tremiti Islands?+
In 2026 non-resident motor vehicles may not be landed between 1 May and 31 October, subject to the published exceptions. In practice almost everyone leaves the car on the mainland, see the vehicles and parking guide.
Can I visit as a day trip?+
From Termoli this often works in high season, when several sailings run each day. Build the plan on the timetable for your date and start from the last useful return, not the first outbound.
How many islands are there?+
Five: San Domino, San Nicola, Caprara, Cretaccio and Pianosa. Only the first two are inhabited and served by scheduled ferries; the others belong to the marine protected area and have no scheduled landing.
