Departure ports
How to get to the Tremiti Islands
Choose the port by date, arrival island and how you reach the coast, not by distance on the map
- Termoli serves both islands and is reachable by train
- The Gargano ports suit travellers already on the promontory
- Seasonal routes have to be checked for the exact date

Which port to choose
The nearest port on the map is not always the one running on your date. Compare transfer, season and arrival island.
The departure ports compared
| Port | Best for | Islands served | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Termoli | Most trips and anyone arriving by train | San Domino and San Nicola | Requires the transfer into Molise if you are on the Gargano |
| Vieste | Stays on the eastern Gargano | San Domino and San Nicola | Long crossing and seasonal service |
| Rodi Garganico | Stays on the northern Gargano | San Nicola | Seasonal service |
| Peschici | Stays on the north coast of the promontory | San Nicola | Seasonal service |
| Manfredonia | Arrivals from the southern Gargano | San Nicola | The longest crossing and the shortest season |
Termoli, the reference port
Termoli is the only port serving both islands and the only one with a railway station close to the quay. It has the shortest crossing and, in the peak months, several sailings a day, which also means more alternatives if a departure is full or the weather changes the plan. Unless you already have a reason to sail from the Gargano, start here. The Termoli page covers arrival, the ticket office and parking.
The Gargano ports
Vieste, Rodi Garganico and Peschici link the archipelago in season, mostly to San Nicola; from Vieste there is also a line to San Domino. They are the right choice if your stay is already on the promontory: you avoid the transfer into Molise and gain a day. In return the crossing is longer, departures are fewer, and the operating windows do not coincide across the ports.
Manfredonia
Manfredonia serves San Nicola with the longest crossing in the archipelago and the shortest season. It works for travellers arriving from the southern side of the Gargano in high summer. Outside that window the comparison shifts to the other ports or to Termoli.
By train, by car, by air
By train the answer is Termoli, on the Adriatic main line. By car what matters is where you leave the vehicle, not where you start: non-resident cars are restricted on the islands for most of the 2026 season, so it stays ashore either way, the vehicles and parking guide starts from that decision. By air, check which port operates on your date before choosing the airport; a convenient flight towards a port that is closed in that period does not help.
Build the trip backwards
Start from the last return sailing you need, confirm it in the timetable and place the outbound leg, the transfer and any flight before it. This is what makes the difference on the seasonal routes, where there is often one sailing a day and no second chance the same day.
Questions about getting there
FAQ
Which port is best for the Tremiti Islands?+
For most trips Termoli: it serves both islands, has the shortest crossing and the widest calendar. The Gargano ports win when you are already on the promontory and the route runs on your date.
Can I get there by train?+
Yes, as far as Termoli: the station is on the Adriatic main line and lies close to the port. The Gargano ports are off that line and need a road transfer.
Which airport is most convenient?+
It depends where you land and on your date: Apulian airports feed the Gargano, while the central Adriatic side connects more easily to Termoli. Check which port runs on your date first, then pick the flight.
Can I do it as a day trip?+
From Termoli often yes in high season. On the seasonal Gargano routes it is tighter, because there may be a single return sailing. Build the plan from the timetable, starting with the return.
Are there ferries from Vasto, Ortona or Pescara?+
In the current calendar, sailings to the Tremiti Islands run from Termoli and the Gargano ports. If you are looking at another port, check your date in the timetable before planning around it.
