Choosing your crossing to San Nicola

Termoli - San Nicola

Termoli has the widest calendar and the shortest crossing to San Nicola, and it is the only port that rail travellers can reach without effort. It is the default unless you are already on the Gargano. Terminal, arrival and parking are covered on the Termoli page.

The Gargano ports

Rodi Garganico, Peschici and Vieste link San Nicola in season. They are convenient if you are staying on the promontory: you save the transfer into Molise, but the crossing is longer and departures are fewer. The operating windows do not coincide across the three ports, so check your date before you commit to accommodation.

Manfredonia

Manfredonia is the longest crossing in the archipelago and has the shortest season. It works if you are starting from the southern side of the Gargano in high summer; outside that window the comparison moves to the other ports or to Termoli.

Confirm the island, not just the route

On part of the services the same departure serves both islands and the landing changes with the day of the week. Read the island shown on the individual sailing in the timetable and confirm it on your booking. If you have booked a room on San Domino, a sailing that lands on San Nicola is not a detail: the crossing between the two islands is by boat only.

Luggage, vehicles and the return

San Nicola is walked, with a climb between the jetty and the settlement, so heavy luggage tells. Non-resident vehicles are restricted for most of the 2026 season, so plan parking on the mainland. Book the return with the outbound leg and leave slack if a train or flight follows your arrival.

Getting to the departure port

Termoli sits close to a station on the Adriatic main line; the Gargano ports are reached mainly by car or regional bus.

By train

  1. Termoli station

This is the only departure in the archipelago comfortably reached by rail. If you are travelling without a car, start here.

  2. Towards the Gargano

Vieste, Peschici, Rodi Garganico and Manfredonia are off the Adriatic line. Plan a road transfer and do not rely on tight connections.

By car

  1. Choosing the port

The right port is the one operating on your date, not the closest one on the map. Check the timetable before you drive there.

  2. Where to leave the vehicle

Non-resident vehicles are restricted for most of the 2026 season, so parking has to be arranged on the mainland.

Questions about ferries to San Nicola

FAQ

Which ports serve San Nicola?+

Termoli across the current calendar and, in season, Vieste, Rodi Garganico, Peschici and Manfredonia. The comparison is in the arrival guide.

How does San Nicola differ from San Domino?+

San Nicola holds the historic settlement and the fortified abbey; San Domino is larger and concentrates the accommodation. They are separate islands, linked only by boat.

Do the Gargano routes run all year?+

No. They are seasonal services with operating windows that do not line up with each other, and Manfredonia has the shortest season. Look up your date in the timetable before fixing the rest of the trip.

Can I bring a car to San Nicola?+

Between 1 May and 31 October 2026 non-resident motor vehicles may not be landed, subject to the published exceptions. See the vehicles and parking guide.

How do I get around after landing?+

The island is small and covered on foot, with a climb from the jetty up to the settlement. Factor that into your luggage, or ask your accommodation how transport is arranged.
